Lets.Have.It Volume 1: End of Summer musings & Mixtape
Ok, so after mocking one of my best friends Bethany’s blog for quite some time, I’ve become bored and decided to follow my housemate Turner’s lead and make a blog of my own. I think I need to get with the 21st century more, I draw the line at Twitter, but with the death of myspace and the general annoyance of Facebook and all it’s inane updates from people you don’t even like, I thought creating a cool little blog (I hope) would be the way to go.
After walking to the shops and seeing all the nervous freshers moving into halls with their parents, I’ve realised Summer 09’ is offically over. Seeing all these post A-Levelers made me feel very old, very nostalgic and very sad that I’m going into my third and final year.
Summer 09’ has seemed like it’s gone on forever. Have been back and forward between my home in Luton and here in Birmingham all holiday. Has definately been different from last year. Can’t put my finger on whether I enjoyed this summer more or less than last so I’m just going to say it’s been different. A LOT has happened between them. Some memorable moments I can take away from my last proper summer as a student include:
1) Going to Amsterdam and sharing a sweet retro themed hostel room with my best friend Nathan in the red light district. Was an all out 3 day binge from which I’m still recovering. Another day in that sin city would have been the death of me Don’t think I’ll ever find a satisfying combination as mushrooms in the day and champagne at night again. Was definately a holiday to remember.
2) The second big ‘Aceptable in the 80s’ dress up theme night at Edge. Didnt think I’d be able to top my Morrissey outfit from the first one way back in college, but going all out with my Adam Ant ensemble smashed it. Was such a good night along with a handful of other standard Edge Tuesdays and ‘Dark Party’ specials over the summer ….
3) Doing work experience filming on the BBC drama ‘Survivors’ here in Birmingham. Highlight without doubt was meeting PJ aka ‘The Johnson’ from Peep Show. Was one of the the best moments in my life when he had his arm around me speaking to me, looking me dead in the eye with his seductive Johnson grin, was exactly like being in Peep Show.
4) Going Reading festival. Better than last year for the nightlife (being wasted on the dodgems) worse for the weather and music - didnt see nearly as many bands as I planned to and the sound qulaity on the main stage was a joke. Thank god for Radiohead saving it Sunday evening.
5) Finally getting a job in Birmingham after last year’s failure. My summer job hunt took me far and wide: from walking 6 miles in the blazing sun to the Cadury Facrtory and back, to trudging around the Bullring with a bag of full of CV’s and what must have been an invisible ‘L’ plate on my forehead. But yeah, I now work at ‘Game’ in The Bullring. Really sound people and perfect place to work seeing as I’ve gotten back into games in a big way along with the rest of my house.
Anyway, thats enough inane rambling. Most of my other blogs will probably be music based with the occasional anecdote from my stupid life. If you dont already know me, I occasionally DJ every now and then. Really looking forward to playing the upcoming fresher nights such as the big comeback warehouse Naked Lunch which is bound to be rammed with the new batch of wasted Freshmen living the alternative Birmingham student dream.
